Bikes for Kids

Students at the Elementary school on the campus of United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck now have their very own brand new fleet of bicycles 25 new bikes of different sizes were introduced to the kids today The bikes were purchased by the college with a 10-thousand dollar grant from General Mills through a program called Eat Right and Ride The goal of the program is to help kids make the connection between fun biking and being healthy Research shows more young American Indians are being effected by obesity Diabetes and suicide Karen Paetz UTTC Land Grant Programs Dir I was looking at the faces today and the youth today We ve got such beautiful bikes These bikes were purchased at Scheels And we ve got every size to accomodate K-8 and I think there were even a couple that adults could ride too so they can ride with their children With help from the Burleigh County Sheriff s Department the students learned how to ride a bike safely around campus The bikes will be available to the kids and their families through a sign-out process Terry Lee 6th Grader at Theodore Jamerson Elem School We really never had bikes here and now they re starting a new program And it s really good that everyone can ride a bike Meanwhile through the Eat Right and Ride program the students are being taught about making good eating choices and the importance of regular exercise
